• Bass Anatomy & Body Balance
• Plucking vs Bowing- Finding the “Sweet Spot”
• Care, Maintenance & Transportation
Everyone will have the opportunity to take their turn playing bass while sharing questions! Ernest is a buttery upright bass with a dapper bow tie collection, and he is on a mission to spread the joy of playing an instrument that’s the size of friend! Ernest The Bass Meet & Greet will be led by local bassist, Amber Grimes, who has spent countless hours next to Ernest’s side since 2010!
12:15 –Ukulele Workshop - Ukulele Fight Club
The UFC is a community group of ukulele enthusiasts who meet twice monthly (check out our calendar at www.ukulelefightclubofhumboldt.com ) to play and have fun jamming. We love playing all kinds of music - pop, oldies, country, rock, punk, r&b and a little Hawaiian thrown in for fun with our friends and treat each meeting like a party. In addition to the big group jams, we host weekly beginners nights and small group practices for performances in the community. Bring your uke (or other stringed favorite) or borrow one of our extras and we’ll promise you’ll leave smiling and able to play a dozen songs!
1:30 - Harmony singing – Seabury Gould, Jim Hubbard and Tamara Hubbard
Come enjoy the magic, beauty & ear-training of singing Harmonies! Eclectic musician & singer Seabury Gould is joined by accomplished vocalists Jim & Tamara Hubbard. The 3 of them have done extensive Harmony singing in various bands & choirs & perform in Beatles tribute band Ticket to Ride. Folks learn 2 & 3-part harmonies with Folk songs such as “Will the circle be unbroken” and contemporary songs like “Helplessly Hoping” (CSN). Let’s sing harmonies together!
2:45 - Uplifting Hopeful singalong - Seabury Gould
Let’s SING together at the Uplifting Hopeful Singalong, hosted by Seabury Gould. It’s always fun & inspiring to sing a variety of Folk songs, especially ones that are Hope-ful! All ages welcome. Seabury accompanies on guitar and has compilations of songs. He has led Song Circles & singalongs in the spirit of Pete Seeger for decades. This casual & inclusive singalong is friendly, informal & welcoming and in the perspective of “Think Globally Sing Locally”. “Hooray for getting rainbow gangs of folks, young & old, singing together!” (Pete Seeger)
4:00-5:30pm Beginning Marimba Band Workshop with Jesse Jonathan
With provided xylophones, come learn a few simple tunes as a group. No experience needed, materials provided, bring a friend and play some fun marimba music. Local music teacher extraordinaire Jesse Jonathan will demonstrate that magical instrument the marimba. Did you know Humboldt County is the marimba capital of the world?
5:30 Irish Seisiun – led by Dana E. Connors
Come play along with local musicians in a traditional Irish Seisiun. Players of all levels are welcome to join the session and will have a chance to call tunes or sets they would like to play with the group. We will be joined by musicians of various instruments who play a regular session together, and new faces are encouraged to join. If you don't know any Irish tunes, bring along a Scots song, an old-time tune or a traditional ditty. You're sure to find someone else to play along. Enjoy traditional folk music, new friends, and old fashioned Irish craic!
