The Arcata Playhouse and Humboldt Folklife Society co-host Eliza Gilkyson, a twice Grammy-nominated singer songwriter and activist who is one of the most respected musicians in Folk, Roots and Americana circles. Her songs have been covered by Joan Baez, Bob Geldof, Tom Rush and Rosanne Cash. She is a member of the Austin Music Hall of Fame, and a recent inductee into the Austin Songwriter Hall of Fame, she has won countless Folk Alliance and Austin Music awards, including 2014’s Songwriter of the Year. Her new release, Secularia is currently topping the Folk charts at number one. The album has cameos by Shawn Colvin, Jimmy LaFave and Tosca String.
Gilkyson is joined for the Playhouse show by special guest Nina Gerber. Nina is the LeBron James of guitar players – everyone who plays with her gets better when she plays. She’s added her talents to the work of a wealth of wonderful artists, including Karla Bonoff, Peter Rowan, Nanci Griffith, Lucy Kaplansky, and Kate Wolf, with whom Nina started her musical career. Her album Good Music with Good People features outstanding performances with Jackson Browne, Eliza Gilkyson, and Bruce Cockburn, among others, all taken from the Kate Wolf Festival.
